A fusion dancer, choreographer, and instructor, Megan Hartmann blends belly dance, modern stylizations, and emotive movement to create a contemporary, expressive style all her own.
Megan was drawn to the stage at an early age, studying music, drama, and dance. In 2005, Megan discovered a way to fuse these three elements after attending a nearby belly dance class with her mother. Upon returning to college, Megan co-founded the University Society of Middle Eastern Dance at Truman State University in 2006. While still in school, Megan began studying the Suhaila Salimpour format at Moon Belly Dance Studio and performed with the DragonFlies Belly Dance Company for 2½ years.
Megan obtained her Level II certification from the Suhaila Salimpour School of Dance in April 2009. In August 2009, Megan was awarded second place at the MAQAM Belly Dance Challenge in Chicago in the Pro Tribal Soloist category. In January 2010, Megan was selected in an international casting competition to dance in New York with Bellydance Evolution, a two-hour belly dance show choreographed and directed by Jillina Carlano of the Bellydance Superstars and Sahlala Dancers in Los Angeles.
Megan's recent work has been influenced significantly by training with Amy Sigil, Natalie Brown, and Asharah. Shewill be teaching classes in the St. Louis area come August 2010.
